What is AlpacaSalesList.Com?

AlpacaSalesList.Com, under the umbrella of Burnt Mountain Llamas, Inc., is a website serving the needs of the alpaca industry. Specifically, we provide a venue to buy and sell quality alpacas without the expenses involved using traditional auctions. Among the services offered are continuous online auctions throughout the year, a sales list of alpacas for sale across the nation, advertising services, web design, and new services are being added in the future. Anyone can register, but only members can sell alpacas and benefit from other services offered now or in the future.

Our purpose is three fold: 1) to promote alpacas and help grow the alpaca industry 2) to provide a alpaca listing service 3) to provide online alpaca auctions to the industry. We believe there are plenty of excellent alpacas in the U.S. and Canada and not enough outlets to accommodate the need for people to sell their alpacas.

When was AlpacaSalesList.Com created?

AlpacaSalesList started in 2004. However, real activity did not begin until 2008 when the first two online auctions were held.

Auctions

What assurance do I have that a alpaca I bid on is excellent?

We cannot offer any guarantee that a alpaca will be outstanding, but some sellers may have guarantees. Buyers are encouraged to contact sellers to arrange a visit to see alpacas in person, request a video, pictures, etc. Some sellers may have satisfaction guarantees and the potential buyers should inquire to find out what guarantees, if any, the sellers offer. Any guarantees that are given to us by the sellers will be posted in the auction.

Can I raise or lower a reserve once the sale starts?

Reserves cannot be raised once the auction starts. If you want to lower a reserve, you can easily do so through the Seller control panel.

How do I consign a alpaca for the auction?

First you must R egister at http://www.alpacasaleslist.com/auction/ if you have not done so previously. Once registered, log in and click on "Seller" from the menu at the top of the page. You will see a menu with options - select "Consign" and fill out the form, followed by uploading photos. Registration is free and allows the registrant to buy alpacas, but to consign you must be a member.

Is there a limit to the number of alpacas I can consign?

It is unlimited throughout your membership but you are limited to four alpacas in an auction at a time.

Are crossbreeds or alpacas with no ARI registration allowed in the sale?

No, it is expected that all alpacas are registered with ARI or they are pending (paperwork submitted)with ARI.

Is there an age requirement for the alpacas in the sale?

If the alpaca is selling by itself, the alpaca must be at least 6 months old.

In what format should photos be uploaded?

Photos need to be uploaded. JPEG format is probably the best format. If the photo seems blurry after uploading, it might be due to the size dimensions of the photo. The auction program automatically creates thumbnails and resizes photos to a decent size. But, if the photo is smaller than the auto size dimensions, the photo could look blurry due to being "zoomed in".

How many photos can I upload of one alpaca?

Since this is an online auction, we encourage everyone to use more if they wish. You are in control of your consignments, and you can add or delete photos at any time. We will assist you if you need help doing this.

Will alpaca transportation be arranged by AlpacaSalesList.Com?

Alpaca transportation must be arranged between the buyer and seller, but the Buyer is ultimately responsible for shipping. There are many alpaca regional and national events throughout the year that can make traveling arrangements easier. There are also numerous alpaca transporters available for hauling. We have set up a bulletin board on the auction site to assist in making arrangements. We would be glad to suggest ideas if requested.

How do I bid?

You must register on the web site and agree to the buyer agreement before you will be eligible to bid. You must give a valid mailing address, phone number, and email address in order to participate as a bidder.

Can I bid on my own alpacas?

Deliberately bidding on your own lots is forbidden and could result in loss of membership with no refunds.

Will My personal information be given to 3rd parties?

Absolutely not! We will never disclose any of your personal information provided to us. Here is our privacy statement: "AlpacaSalesList.Com will gather your information so that other people will have it on hand when you win their auction (or they win your auction). Personal information will never be sold or rented. Personal information sent to a user regarding a alpaca sold on the auction is not to be used for any other purpose, except for communication about the auction item."

What is the listing service?

The listing service, often referred to as "The List", is our private treaty service for those alpacas that qualify. For Sellers, once your alpacas are listed on our site, you will benefit from the internet traffic coming to our site and from our magazine advertising. For Buyers, this might very well be the best place to look for the alpacas you want. We try to have as a lot of diversity, from brown to gray alpacas, silky to suris.

What makes your site different than other similar internet sites?

Similar site either offer listing services or auctions (but not 24-7 auctions), but they do not offer both. We are the first alpaca site to combine 24-7 online auctions with listing alpacas for sale along with advertising services. But we also have more planned - more services and benefits, including leads and referrals for members. Our advertising budget includes outreach beyond the alpaca industry. Some sites in existence are nothing more than outdated techniques offering little benefit for the costs involved. Most farms have their own websites now, so why pay for something you don't need? With our services, you can still list all your alpacas and each alpaca has your information listed including location, website, phone number, and email. The big difference is in addition to this, you also have access to selling in alpaca auctions as much as you want.

What Guarantees do the alpacas come with?

AlpacaSalesList.Com does not provide any guarantee whatsoever for any of the alpacas on the list. However, the owners of the alpacas likely have guarantees, and you should ask them what, if any, guarantees they provide.
